The Backup and export screen gathers two different things: the backup, which is a file meant to be restored inside the app itself, and the CSV export, meant for use outside it.
The file backup is available on any plan.
Make a backup
Tap Export backup. The app produces a file with the data of this device, and you choose where to keep it.
Make a backup before changing phones, before a reinstall and from time to time, even with cloud backup on.
Restore
Restore backup reads the file back in. It is the way to take all the data to a new device without depending on a plan or an account.
Export to a spreadsheet
In Export data to file, choose the areas and the Period, and tap Export as CSV. The app produces a zip file with one CSV per selected area.
Trips are exported in full: besides the summary, the file carries the route, the sensor readings, the events and the scores.
Choose the period sensibly
Exporting the whole history at once produces a large file and takes longer. For an expense claim or a tax return, export only the period you need.
