Smart Driving

The two driving scores, what affects each one and the detailed report of the period.

Smart Driving gathers the two scores the app calculates per trip: the Safe Score, for safety, and the Eco Score, for efficiency. The screen shows the score of the current trip, the average for the period and the metrics that formed each one.

  1. Read the two scores

At the top sit Safe Score and Eco Score, side by side, each one with a one-line reading that runs from "Flawless driving, well done!" to "Ease off on hard acceleration and braking".

The two scores measure different things: the safety score counts harsh events, and the efficiency one judges consumption and engine speed.

  2. Choose the period

The month picker changes everything below it, and the Day / Month toggle switches the report between the daily and the monthly view. The Average considers the trips of the chosen period rather than the whole history, which lets you compare one month with another.

  3. See what affected the score

In Period metrics, the safety part gathers Distance traveled, Driving time, Average speed, Maximum speed, Avg. RPM, Maximum RPM, Speeding, Hard Acceleration, Hard Braking, Sharp cornering, Sequential events, Phone usage and Night driving, from 10 pm to 6 am.

The efficiency part gathers Idle time, Idle occurrences, Idle stops, fuel burned while idling, Coasting time, High RPM time, High speed time, how long the speeding lasted, Average consumption, Total fuel used and CO₂ emissions.

Speeding counts from the Overspeed threshold set in Calibrations, 120 km/h by default. High RPM counts above 4000 rpm, and high speed above 115 km/h. Coasting time is the only metric that adds points: it is the time spent decelerating with the injectors closed, on engine braking rather than the pedal.

  4. Open the detailed report

Comprehensive report opens the analysis of the whole period on the same screen used for the detail of a single trip, with the safety and efficiency metrics separated by tab.

Sharp cornering, sequential events and stops are presented by intensity rather than by total alone: three hard brakes in a row carry a different weight from three spread across the month.

  5. Look trip by trip

The list below carries each trip with its score. Tap one of them to open the detail. Load More brings the rest of the period.

If something goes wrong

The score depends on fuel and engine speed data, which only arrive through the OBD adapter. With no adapter connected, the app shows the Eco Score requires OBD adapter notice, and the Fix button leads to the Connection screen.

On a fully electric car, or on any vehicle whose ECU does not report a usable fuel rate, the score is not calculated even with the adapter connected. In those cases the app leaves the score blank rather than showing a value with no basis.

Trips under one minute or under 200 meters are discarded by the app and do not enter the list, because the sample is too small to mean anything.

Check the engine speed. The Eco Score takes points off for time at high RPM, and there is no band that rewards staying put: holding the engine between two speeds earns nothing on its own.

The score also rewards steady speed. A trip at a constant 90 scores higher than one swinging between 70 and 110, regardless of how the pedal was used.

The scores belong to the trips, and the trips belong to the vehicle. On switching the active car on the home screen, Smart Driving starts showing the history of the car you chose.
