Dashcam

Recording the road through the phone camera and finding the videos afterwards.

The Dashcam records the road through the phone camera while you drive. The video goes to the device gallery, and files recorded during a trip are also tied to it.

  1. Position and open

Fix the phone in the mount, rear camera facing forward, and open the Dashcam screen. Recording only happens with this screen open.

The first time it opens, the Recommendations screen says that the video is saved to the gallery, that the videos of a trip are also reachable from its detail and that the quality is set in Settings. While recording, the screen shows the Safe Score and the Eco Score of the trip under way.

  2. Turn automatic recording on

In Settings, Dashcam, turn on Record automatically. From then on recording starts together with the trip, as long as the dashcam screen is open.

  3. Choose the quality

Video quality sets the resolution. The higher the resolution, the more space each minute takes and the more the device heats up. If the phone does not support the resolution you chose, the app says so and uses the closest one.

  4. Decide about the audio

Audio recording captures sound along with the image. On turning it on, the app asks for microphone access. Bear in mind that the option also picks up the conversations inside the car.

  5. Find the videos afterwards

The files sit in the phone gallery. The ones recorded during a trip also appear on its detail, in Trip History, with time, duration and size, and can be opened from there.

If something goes wrong

Recording video is the most demanding thing the app does. The most common causes are storage running out, low battery and the device heating up.

Before a long trip, free up space, plug the charger in and avoid leaving the phone in direct sun behind the windshield.

Automatic recording needs the dashcam screen open. It does not record in the background or with the app minimized, and the setting itself says so.

Not every camera accepts every resolution. When the chosen resolution does not exist on the device, the app says so and records at the closest one available.

Open the trip in Trip History and scroll to the dashcam block. If the video was deleted from the gallery, the app shows Unavailable: the record stays, the file does not.
