Sensor Profiles

The Standard, Advanced and User tabs, installing the manufacturer's profile and what to do to keep readings fast.

A profile is the list of readings the app asks the car for. The screen opens from Settings, under Sensor Profiles, and splits that list into three tabs, according to where each profile comes from.

  1. Start with Standard

    The Standard tab gathers seven preloaded profiles that work on any car: the sensors standardized across all manufacturers, the ones the app calculates and the ones that come from the phone itself.

    These profiles have no activation switch and cannot be deleted, because the app depends on them to work. Swiping the row to the right opens the profile in read-only mode, with no changes allowed.

  2. Install the manufacturer's profile

    The Advanced tab lists the catalog profiles of your make, for every model of it, so that you can browse. The profile matching your car carries the Suggested tag and appears at the top.

    Tap the install icon. The app warns that the advanced profile already installed will be removed, because the vehicle uses one at a time. Confirm with Install.

    If the profile you chose belongs to another model, the warning adds that compatibility is not guaranteed. Prefer the Suggested one whenever it exists.

    This tab is where readings missing from the standard set show up, such as the pressure of each tire, the transmission temperature and battery health on an electric car.

  3. Build a profile of your own

    Use the floating button and choose New profile to create an empty profile on the User tab. The profiles you create are the only ones that carry the activation switch, and they serve to gather just the sensors you actually follow.

    Swipe the row to the right to open the editor, and to the left to delete. The installed advanced profile can also be removed by swiping left, which returns it to the catalog.

  4. Edit a profile or a sensor

    The profile editor has two parts: Profile Details, with name and description, and PID Definitions, the sensor list. Add sensor (PID) creates a new sensor; swipe a row to the right to edit and to the left to delete. Finish with Save Profile. On leaving with pending changes, the app asks whether to discard them.

    The sensor editor gathers the sections Sensor Configuration, with name, PID in hexadecimal and unit; Display, with minimum, maximum, chart type and icon; Calculation, with the expression; Dependencies; Parsing, with expected bytes and scale; Advanced OBD, with CAN header and response address; the Enabled, Show in Live Data and Export to HA/MQTT switches; and the Home Assistant, Diagnostic and Matterbridge sections, which set up the export.

    Sensors from preloaded and catalog profiles open in read-only mode. To change one of them, use Export to My PIDs: the app copies the sensor into your user profile, and the copy can be edited.

  5. Look for sensors the catalog does not have

    Still on the floating button, Discover advanced sensors opens the ECU probe, which tests sensors one by one on your car.

    Check advanced sensor support does something different: it revalidates the sensors already installed, without looking for new ones.

  6. Keep readings fast

    Every active sensor is one more question on a shared bus. A profile with six sensors updates each one far more often than a profile with forty, and the screen itself warns that turning several profiles on at once, or profiles with many sensors, can make the app slow and the readings unstable.

    Preloaded profiles cannot be turned off, so the fine tuning happens in two places: turn off the switch of any user profile you are not following, and turn off individual sensors on the Supported sensors screen, where every reading has a switch of its own.


If something goes wrong

That is the expected behavior, and the app warns before installing: the vehicle uses one advanced profile at a time, and the new one replaces the old. The profiles on the Standard and User tabs are not affected.

The manufacturer's catalog does not cover every model. Use Discover advanced sensors, on the floating button: the probe tests sensors directly on your car's ECU and finds readings the model never had documented.

Avoid installing another model's profile instead. The app warns you in that case, because compatibility is not guaranteed.

This is the most common cause of slowness, and the screen itself warns about it: the more active sensors, the fewer times each one is updated.

Turn off the switch of any user profile you are not following and, on the Supported sensors screen, turn off the individual readings you do not use. Preloaded profiles cannot be turned off.

The preloaded profiles on the Standard tab can be neither deleted nor turned off, and the app explains that when it refuses the action. They are needed for the app to work.

The installed advanced profile and the user profiles can be removed by swiping left.

Sensors from preloaded and catalog profiles open in read-only mode, and the editor itself says so. Use Export to My PIDs to create an editable copy in your user profile.

If the editor says the sensor is used by a feature of the app, it cannot be turned off there. The Supported sensors screen shows what depends on it.
